presents:
“Deacon Dallas and Mother Wanda Clark: This Is Our Life”
Marriage, like our relationship with God, has a transforming
element to it. This is the story when it comes to the lives of Deacon Dallas
Clark and Mother Wanda Clark. For richer or for poorer, in sickness and in
health, ‘til death do us part. These are some of the vows a couple usually
makes when the two become one.
In September of 2007, Deacon and Mother Clark invited the people of Bethel
Temple Church into a glimpse of their storied life, which indirectly covered
a few of the aforementioned vows.
Being married for 54 years has proved trying at times and rewarding as well.
The Clarks were married in 1954. Soon after came their five children. Mother
Clark admits the first 25 years of marriage were the most difficult. Not
knowing what to expect from her husband day to day was a big problem. As all
marriages go through growing pains, it was not until Mother Clark began to
have a repentant heart toward the Lord Jesus Christ that things began to
turn around. The transforming power of God was taking affect in her life.
She recalled being “done” with the marriage after 25 years. “Eddie”, she
affectionately calls her husband, was in the hospital during the time.
Mother Clark was on her way to leaving her home when she heard the Lord tell
her to cancel the divorce. After calling a couple of people to inquire about
it, she left out of the house with cancelling it.
“All of sudden, it felt like something threw me up against the house and
told me to go call the attorney and cancel the divorce”, she recalled to the
congregation. Immediately, she went back into the house to obey the voice of
the Lord. After doing this, she went to go visit her husband in the hospital
to tell him about her actions, but was met with a cutting response of a
husband who spoke out from his old nature.
Crying as she left the hospital, the blessing she received of this obedient
action was being filled with the Holy Spirit nine days later. From then on,
Mother Clark was a woman of spiritual transformation. Deacon Clark testifies
to this. “She didn’t cuss anymore. She didn’t open the bingo hall anymore”,
he said. Needless to say it sparked great curiosity in him.
With her faith in God growing, it proved to have had a direct affect on her
husband. He saw her actions, became intrigued, and decided to go check
things out himself. After a while, he saw enough to eventually receive Jesus
Christ for himself. His transformation had begun. He determined from that
day on to never turn back. Since then, Deacon and Mother Clark have
acknowledged Jesus Christ for their continued transformations.
Much more wisdom was shared with Bethel Temple that evening, but the main
thing they wanted the congregation to know is that with God all things are
possible, and that we should always hold onto His unchanging hand.
Deacon and Mother Clark continue to serve God under the leadership of their
pastor and son, Dane Clark, and his wife Lisa Clark. Deacon Clark is the
Superintendent of the Sunday School Department and Mother Clark heads the
Noon Day Prayer at Bethel Temple Church and is over the Missionary Ministry.
